KNOWLEDGESHARING
DESIGN OF THE COMPLIANCE FUNCTION
GET STARTED WITH OUR BUILDING BLOCKS
The Knowledge Table has developed three building blocks to help design, evaluate and further develop the compliance function. Use them individually or in combination and adapt them to the context of your organisation.
1. Mission, vision & environmental scan
Determine what Compliance stands for and what your organisation needs.
This guide helps you define the mission, vision and core values of Compliance. Using a practical step-by-step plan and an internal and external environmental scan, you can translate these into an approach that suits your organisation.
2. Compliance Charter
Clearly establish the position and mandate of Compliance.
The Compliance Charter is a practical template for documenting the objectives, position, scope, duties, authority and responsibilities of the compliance function, among other matters.
3. EICP Professional Competency Profile
Identify the competencies required.
The EICP Professional Competency Profile provides insight into the competencies associated with different roles and career stages. The profile is based on VCO’s core values of expertise, autonomy, diligence and engagement and can be used for purposes including professional development, recruitment and team building.

The three building blocks complement each other:
Setting the direction → Mission, vision & environmental scan
Designing the function → Compliance Charter
Defining competencies → EICP Professional Competency Profile
Together, they provide a practical starting point for a compliance function that suits your organisation.
A PRACTICAL QUESTION?
Are you facing an issue concerning the design of the compliance function or the use of one of the building blocks? Feel free to submit your question to the Knowledge Table.
VCO members can have a confidential discussion with one of our Knowledge Table members. After you submit the form, we will connect you with someone who has the appropriate knowledge and experience.
CONTRIBUTE OR PARTICIPATE?
Could the compliance function be designed more effectively? Do you have ideas for new topics or tools, would you like to share your experience, or are you interested in participating in the Knowledge Table? Contact us at info@vco.nl or get in touch with one of the members listed under “Who we are”.
